 DAK PHARMACEUTICALS DONATES INSECT REPELLENT FOR 
USO CARE PACKAGES 

Washington, D.C. --Dak Pharmaceuticals, a Philadelphia based company is donating 
90 cases of “Greenhead Insect Repellent,” to show their support of U.S. armed services 
personnel servicing in the gulf region. 

“In the last month or so, we have been inundated with requests by military personnel 
and/or their families, asking for donations or discounts on our product,” said David Kern, 
president of the company. 

Dak, is only one of two companies that make an insect repellent with the EPA approved 
ingredient “DEET.” Greenhead Repellent, is a water-based product that contains no alcohol and 
retails for $9.95. “Our product has been approved by the EPA and deet is the only chemical that 
has been proven to really work against mosquitoes. By using water instead of alcohol, the 
repellent lasts longer and also makes it slightly more effective,” says Kern. 

Kern and his staff decided to make the generous donation to the USO because, “We think 
it’s important that people support our troops without making a political statement for or against

Individuals can also sponsor a package for a donation of $25. Corporations may 
contribute to this program’s success through financial contributions, items donated in bulk for 
the care packages, or through implementation of an employee participation program. For 
example, AT & T is already supporting this program by providing a complimentary toll free 
number for individuals to call for further information (1-866-USO-GIVE) and phone cards to be 
included in the packages for the troops. 

The care packages contain an assortment of items that our military has specifically 
requested, such as prepaid international calling cards, disposable cameras, toiletries, and 
sunscreen. Packages also include greetings from the American public, transcribed onto official 
“Operation USO Care Package” post cards, by volunteers and USO staff members. Through 
partnerships with USOs across the world and the support of the American public, packages will 
be sent to members of our Armed Forces deployed oversees.
